3 Weird Ways To Fall Asleep

I struggle with a moderate level of insomnia. Typically, I have a hard time falling asleep 3 or 4 nights a week and on those nights perhaps get 4 hours of deep rest. The issue is that I don't want to become dependent on sleeping pills or anything for that matter, so I've discovered a few more "natural" ways to become sleepy.

A cocktail. I certainly do not advocate alcoholism, but most of America has a hard time shutting their brains down after a long work day. There are also lots of herbs if that's your thing, but in my experience just one alcoholic beverage can soothe my mind. It helps me get to a state in which I don't even think about my job, or the things I have to complete the following day. It helps me just enjoy the present for a couple of hours, and that is really the key to being able to fall asleep. It's good to find a way to turn off all the thoughts about the things that didn't go the way you wanted that day, and your tasks for the following day. You must allow your brain to relax, and one drink can really help that happen. Plus, just one doesn't cause a hangover and, if you choose wine or beer—all of these have been proven to come with health benefits. Wine can decrease the risk of stroke, colon cancer, and brain decline amongst other major health issues. Beer can actually provide someone with plenty of vitamin B6, increase one's "good" cholesterol levels and minimize the risk of kidney stones.

Emotional music A lot of people make the mistake of listening to hyper music right before bedtime. They perhaps put on upbeat music while they tidy up their bedroom or talk with their friends online at night. But, upbeat music can wake you up and also get you thinking about the issues of the day. Listening to heartful classical, maybe piano, music can really calm you down. It can deeply relax you and induce a sense of wellbeing. The trick is that this music has no vocals, so there are no lyrics that might get your mind churning again. Discover which kinds of instrumental music you enjoy and perhaps buy an album that you can put on each night when you are trying to become sleepy. If you must hear words in your music, the most soothing thing to do is sing to yourself. In fact I took singing lessons just to work on my voice so that I could not only sing to myself, but to my kids. Hopefully I have inspired them to want to see a voice coach themselves one day.

Accept your insomnia The largest concern that tortures insomniacs is that they might be awake all night. And if the only thing on your mind is whether or not you'll fall asleep, you can guarantee that it won't happen. When you aren't able to go to sleep, say this to yourself: "I very well may not fall asleep tonight. That is OK. Nothing bad is going to happen to me if I can't sleep tonight. I'll still be able to get through tomorrow. It's not a big deal." Once you tell yourself this, your mind is free to wander onto other thoughts, and that is usually when you fall asleep.
