Wind Turbine Kit: What Parts Come With One?

by Roger Brown(134) Red Star

When we are talking about a wind turbine, we are talking about many different things. When you think of a kit it is different than what I think of a kit. Kit means different things to different people, obviously.

So, for the purposes of discussion I am going to lay out the parts for you that come with the wind turbine kit and what you know what you can expect…

But the first thing to consider is that when you buy wind turbine kit is you are not necessarily getting a single piece of equipment that is a plug-and-play. It could well be the you still have to buy a tower or an inverter or some other part of this assembly that is not common to all purchasers who might want to install wind turbines the house.

This means that you need to carefully look into what comes with the kit that you are considering. Not all will come with the parts that you intend. Before you begin you need to take some really careful effort and size up what your specific situation is. You need to understand the wind resources that you control. You also need to understand the locations where you might install a wind turbine and if there are special considerations to be made for the foundation that you will need on your roof, for example.

The parts that come with most home wind turbines are…

The blade system-this is just the rotor hub and the blades themselves. Typically they have to be bolted onto a plate that is attached to the shaft.

The motor-this is the main component and actually turns the mechanical energy or kinetic energy into electrical energy that can actually be used by you in your house with a specific appliance. The motor will accept the kinetic energy that is transferred to it from the turning shaft and through the magnetic field inside, create the electricity that flows through the wires to your battery or appliance.

The housing-this is the case, or the part that will surround the motor and the shaft. These are usually very aerodynamic, so as to provide the most efficient shape which will lead to the most efficient use of the wind energy that surrounds you.

In conclusion, the parts that come with the wind turbine kit vary from kit to kit. When you are looking for these devices on the Internet you need to make sure that the parts that you think it comes with are actually what you are going to get. Otherwise you could get a box full of sub-assembled parts that still require additional pieces in order to get them up and running. This could be very frustrating for you, should be expecting to buy a wind turbine have it up and running quickly.
