Solar Accent Lights
by Jacque Crook(458)
The use of solar lighting is an excellent choice for providing adequate lighting to your yard, garden, or pathway. These light fixtures are easy to install since they do not require wiring and they won't contribute to your normal electricity consumption either thanks to their use of solar panels. Although solar lights are designed to save you some money in the long run, you may have to pay a bit more for a solar lighting system. If initial budget is your main concern, you can take a conservative approach by resorting to solar accent lights instead.
Don't be put off by the word "conservative" because a solar accent lighting system may actually be better for your garden, patio, or yard if you implement the system in a creative way. Before you consider solar lighting as your approach, understand that a single solar accent lighting fixture will only provide a small amount of illumination due to its small size.
Therefore, maximizing the potential of solar lights is all about creative placement. If you do not have that creative mindset, a good way to get started would be to find out the most important areas that need lighting. Of course, during the day, you won't be able to realize right away so wait for the night time to hit and do a bit of trial and error with the available solar lights until you discover a nice setup. If your yard has a pavement, you can try building your solar accent lighting system around that area since it is important to walk on that pavement and not the grass.
While solar lights are not reliable as main sources of lighting, they are good enough to highlight key areas so you do not necessarily have to group many accent lights together. For instance, you should be able to walk on the pavement without any problems if there is a pair of solar lights at both ends. Keep the accent lights spaced apart actually creates a nice aesthetic view. You can extend that nice view to key areas of your garden so your garden can stand out at night. With good placement, you can also use the limited lighting to monitor these key areas of your garden.
A solar accent lighting system is more of an aesthetic touch than a functional lighting system. Solar accent lights are good to deploy just to see if solar energy is really effective in your area. Then you can add additional lighting if needed by going for larger solar lamp posts.
