Many people have cell phones these days, in fact many people have a couple. One of the amazing things about this technology is that new phones with advanced features are coming out about every six months or so. It can be tough to go shopping for one, because there are so many options and things to decide, it can be downright confusing. Especially if you are on a tight budget, buying the wrong phone can set you back a while. It's not like you can buy another one. Most people buy a phone every six months or so, so it's important to get the right one. In this article, you'll learn some important tips when shopping for a phone.

First of all, you've got to figure out what your budget is before you go shopping. If you hit the stores without really having any idea how much you want to spend, you can end up spending way too much. There are just so many cool features that you can easily get emotionally swayed to buy something you really can't afford. It's best to only carry cash, or a debit card. Leave those credit cards at home, because it might just be too tempting.

Two of the main reasons people get cell phones, is to call, obviously, and to text. Of course, more and more people are texting instead of calling. Unless you want to have a long conversation with your soul mate, texting is much more versatile. You can text from inside a crowed bar, and you can even text while in class, in case you are in school. The difference between phones that were designed for talking, and phones that were designed primarily for texting is significant, so make sure you know what you want before you get it.

If you can afford it, a smart phone can be a great thing to get. There are many features and applications, and you can do a lot of things on a smart phone. Not to mention the screen is a lot bigger. You can also surf the net, and get almost as much done as you would be able to on your laptop or notebook.

Unless you are getting an older version, or a basic phone for speaking only, you are going to need to get Internet access. This means that you'll have to be paying a little bit extra for your monthly bill, so make sure to take this into account when you are coming up with your budget.

These are the basics, but they can help out a lot when shopping for a new phone. Just stick your budget, and you'll be fine.
