Rules Of The Roof To Perform Any Work

If you are thinking of completing a roof repair on your own, knowing and following these simple rules will help you complete the job safely:

• Keep your balance at all times. Overreaching on a ladder can be dangerous. If you are not able to reach move the ladder closer to the place you need to work.

• Never go up on a roof when it is raining, when the roof is wet, or if there is a lighting storm. Work only in day that are dry, preferably sunny, with no winds.

• Keep the roof clear of debris. Loose shingles and scraps of underlayment can slide. Watch for any loose shingles, tiles, moos or wet leaves.

• If you are planning to remove the entire roof in your own, work from the ridge down, and sweep the roof periodically to prevent you from tripping with loose debris.

• Dump debris directly into a container or truck, if possible. This will help you to keep the yard clean and make the final clean up an easy. Also avoid throwing debris in the garden and shrubbery.

• Secure the area where you are going to dump the debris so one strays into the falling-object zone. Keep pets, children, and bystanders away from your work area.

• Keep your distance from the power line to your house.

• Stack materials at the end of the ridge of the roof and disperse them to spread the lead. If the roof is steep, nail roofing jacks near the ridge on both sides and lay planks to keep the bundles in place.

• If the slope of your roof is 5 in 12-about 22 degrees, you should be able to work comfortable.

• Use roof jacks on steeply sloped roofs.

• Do not strain or overexert yourself. Lift just what is comfortable to you. It is better to split the load than to cause yourself an injury.

• Set a steady pace that is comfortable to you, and take frequent breaks to prevent fatigue.

• Try to keep all the air hose, power cords or safety cords away from the area where you are working to prevent you from tripping.

Remember that your safety is first at all times. If at any point of your project you feel that the project is bigger than what you expected, contact a professional roofer that can help and assist you.
