What Do You Want From A Gadget Shop

by Jeffery Nevil(145) Red Star

Gadget shops are awesome. You go in and ideally you see some crazy stuff. You want to see some cool stuff, a lot things you haven't seen before or even ever thought of. The reason why you want to see that sort of thing is because of what the word gadget conjures up in your mind's eye. I think of really technical stuff that you might see in spy movies. Granted, these aren't exactly available to the general public and won't be in most gadget shops. The sorts of gadgets you might see are more normal, and less deadly. Gadgets are supposed to make things easier, to give you a bit of help when you're going about your day to day business as usual. Something to give you a lift, just brighten your day because you think - Now that I have this, I don't have to deal with that problem anymore. So that's what I want from a gadget shop, and I don't think I'm alone. When look around, that's the sort of stuff I want to see - things that are useful.

There's a small subsection of gadgets that just don't fit into this really. But I don't want to talk about them. I want to talk about the good stuff. Well, let's begin. It's winter, and as a result there are a lot of cold snaps around - sometimes that results in ice. Here's a bit of science for you, ice is slippery due to a lack of friction. I know, it's amazing, but enough education for now. A good and useful gadget that I like to see in a shop is ice grippers. These are made from silicone and slip neatly over your shoes. They have special studs on the underside for increased traction and grip. So you don't slip. Pretty useful. The material is flexible up to minus 40 degrees Celsius, so you should be safe even if you're in Siberia. These could be good even for outdoor adventure treks and the like. There quite small and easy to fold, so you can put them away easily.

Let's up the stakes shall we, and explore the big bad world of multi tools. These little beauties are ultimate in usefulness. They come in a wide range of varieties. It's not necessarily just designed for the outdoorsmen among us, or outdoorswomen for that matter, it's really for general use too. Bear Grylls, eat your heart out. Some of them are so small and compact that it's like a toolbox that fits in the palm of your hand. Attachments can include the basic screwdrivers and pliers etcetera, but there's a load more like torches and spirit levels to make these bad boys a bit more special.

So that's my idea of what gadgets should be in a gadget shop. If these sorts of gadgets are in the shop then I'm happy to just have a look around and see what's what. There's a whole world of awesomeness out there, and it's useful too.
