Recycled Rainwater Is Better For Cleaning Jobs Such As Washing Clothes

As well as the obvious benefits of re-using rainwater, there are also other benefits that are less obvious. For example, using recycled rainwater to feed washing machines is actually better than using mains water.
When mains water is treated by your water board, a number of chemicals are added to purify and kill bacteria. These chemicals are harmless to humans in small amounts for drinking water, but are not needed in water that is used to wash clothes. There is a huge market for water softeners for houses in hard water areas and these are primarily for drinking water but also to improve the water for washing machines. Many washing machines need softening agents and conditioners when living in a hard water area. It is well known that washing clothes is easier and better when water is softer, as soap and detergent works much better. Therefore recycled rainwater is a much better water for doing these activities, and best of all its free as well. You may even find that reused rainwater is kinder on your floors, windows, and even the family car, as it is softer than most mains water, especially if you live in a hard water area.
You can utilise rainwater by using a rainwater harvesting system by SCP Environmental Ltd. These systems store rainwater in underground storage tanks called Graf Carat tanks until it's needed. Then, when water is demanded, it can be pumped from these tanks to your home, and can either completely replace or supplement your existing mains water supply. This makes the process completely invisible to the end user, and is an extremely convenient solution. Not only is the water quality better, but tasks such as washing clothes, and even cars, becomes easier and much more efficient.
Adding a rainwater harvesting system to your home is an easy process. You just need enough space in your yard or garden to accommodate an underground storage tank. Once the tank is in place, you can cover the area with a flowerbed or lawn, and apart from an access hole, it's virtually invisible. The only upheaval is the initial excavation needed to sink the tank, but this will quickly be filled in and you won't even notice this has been done after a few weeks. The benefits of these systems are huge, and as well as being more efficient with water usage and better for the environment, the system pays for itself in a short period of time.
