Interesting And Unique Gift Ideas

by Jeffery Nevil(136) Red Star

Getting the right gift is a difficult, but important part of life. We all know what it's like to receive a bad gift. An inappropriate, boring or poorly chosen novelty present is one of the easiest ways to underwhelm someone you are giving to. Everyone wants to receive, and ideally give, a gift that is personal, thoughtful, well chosen and unique.

So, what do you look for when trying to decide what to get. It's a hard choice, but there are things to look out for. Hopefully I can give you a few hints and help you to navigate what is an absolute minefield. First things first, think about who or what you are buying for. Are you getting something for him, for her, for the home or for the garden. Work it out and this will immediately reduce the anxiety and fear of present buying. Trust me.

Okay, you've worked out who you are buying for, but then there's the matter of what to get. Well here are a few unique ideas that will be pleasing for the recipient. Presents for her, a classic problem for the gentlemen of the world, can seem the most difficult. Fear not, here are a few tips.

Jewellery is a great option. A few men reading this will probably raise an eyebrow at this one, but you don't have to break the bank to get a thoughtful and good quality piece. You can get very nicely designed bracelets, necklaces or earrings for a very reasonable price. A nice set of pearl earrings sounds very fancy and impossibly opulent, but you can get a pair beautifully made from silver with a pearl finish for not much at all. Look around for good materials, good craftsmanship and you won't disappoint. Jewellery aside, think about scented candles, bath oils and salts or fashion accessories like a nice scarf. Perhaps a jewellery box would make a nice accompaniment to a pair of earrings or a necklace.

For him is a different kettle of fish. Obviously. But anyway, let's get some ideas rolling around. I, speaking as a man, have not once been disappointed with a mug. Mugs to men are almost like jewellery, we have many of them and love collecting them - never would we dream of throwing them away. Look for a mug that has a tasteful design, novelty ones can be a bit passe but there are some genuinely funny ones that aren't cheesy. They're cheap, and you can get some very nice bone china ones for a good price. A safe option. Some other ideas - perhaps a nice set of beer glasses or cocktail glasses even. A good cocktail book, filled with recipes and drinks ideas, might be a good choice too. Books are good, try and get one that's not too serious and can be enjoyable as a gift. There are little books of interesting facts out there that can get good mileage, a nice urban fashion book or street art book will be nice for the coffee table - they're good quality too, with very glossy and detailed prints or pictures.

For the home. Well, you may be buying for a man or a woman - but maybe a couple - so think carefully. You don't want something too garish for a newlywed couple. I've seen a set of floral hooks online; these are very ornately designed and also subtle enough to be enjoyed by either sex. They'd be great to hang utensils in the kitchen. Utensils themselves can make a good gift for the home too.

For the garden, well the obvious choice would be seeds or planting kits. You still have to choose what seeds to get though. Parsley or mint are easy to grow and will provide something for use once they've matured. It's the gift that keeps on giving, but flowers can give a nice aura to a garden so don't be afraid to buy them.

Well I hope you've learned a little bit about buying really unique and interesting gifts. It really doesn't have to be that hard. Just put a little thought into it and I'm sure you'll have some very grateful people thanking you for a lovely present.
