Conceiving a Boy or a Girl

Does it matter if you conceive a boy or a girl? It matters to some families and couples; some families even look for effective ways to ensure the birth of a baby boy or a girl to balance out the family. In some cultures, a male is more favored and conceiving a baby girl may be ill favored. There are also parents who wish to have a first born son or a daughter after several unsuccessful attempts to conceive one.
All the fuss about conceiving a boy or a girl actually lies in the male or the father-to-be. A male has an X and a Y chromosome. The X is the male chromosome which has all the male characteristics and behavior; it is described as fast-moving, strong but may live for a short period of time. The Y female chromosome on the other hand has all the female characteristics and behavior but is described as slow-moving, not as strong as its male counterpart but may live for a longer time in the female’s cervix.
Considering these characteristics of the two types of sperm, experts have explored the many possibilities of conceiving a boy or a girl:
1. If you want to conceive a bouncing baby boy, determine the woman’s ovulation day and have sex closest to that day. This is to ensure that the fast-moving male sperm can join the egg quicker. A better sexual position which can directly deposit the sperm near the egg is the ideal. Many experts choose the back entry position when the male enters the woman from behind allowing the sperm to directly access the cervix.
2. If you want to conceive a baby girl, the ideal time to do it is about 2 to 4 days before ovulation. This will make sure that the strong and longer-lived female sperm can be left inside the cervix to successfully conceive a baby girl. A position that can make this possible is through the missionary style where the man and woman make love face to face.
If you have observed, this method involves learning when a woman is likely to ovulate which is somehow a challenge for some women and couples. Determining a female’s ovulation date is easy and here are some of the best techniques.
1. The calendar technique is perfect for women with normal and regular periods (28 to 30 days). It is preset that at day 14 of the cycle is when a woman is more likely to ovulate and when she is fertile.
2. The cervical mucus test is observing texture and the elasticity of the cervical mucus during a woman’s cycle. Thinner and slippery mucus is when a woman is likely to be fertile or ovulating.
3. The Basal Body Temperature is determining a woman’s ovulation date by observing temperature increases during her cycle. A rise of half a degree to one degree is observed during the time when a woman is likely to be fertile or ovulating.
