A music pool or DJ pool has a centralized collection of music files (in the form of mp3s, most of the time) specifically created for music distribution. It lets DJs receive the promotional music that they play in different nightclubs when they have gigs. The music industry sends DJs their latest releases as well as the remix versions. In return, the DJ pool provides the needed feedback on every released track and is responsible to expose the clubs to these mp3s.
A pool director managers the music pool. Music pools started with vinyl record pools in 1975 New York City. It has turned to CD distribution networks. With the advent of the Internet, online music distribution makes it easier for DJs to access the digital pools. In fact, there is now a boom of DJ pools and DJs all over the world can just take their pick. They need not worry about running out of mp3s since these will all come their way. They can just register in DJ pools and be updated on the latest releases.
Today’s DJs are grateful for David Mancuso, Vince Aletti and Steve D’Aquisto. They came up with the concept of a music pool because they wanted to have a pipeline for swapping the music information between DJs and the whole music industry. It is popular in the United States. Promotional pool system is not really established in other countries. There are some in Canada.
The definition of music pool has changed overtime. Nowadays, it still reflects the advance state of the technology music distribution resorts to such as mp3 downloads. It has also caused some pools to go through major transformations in their membership policies. Music pools also distribute their sample releases through vinyl or CD but digital formats such as MP3s are easier because these are portable.
Here are the common advantages DJs get in any music pool that they sign up with. First, they can get the pre-released MP3 tracks, especially if they are exclusive members. Take note, these MP3 downloads are of high quality and can be played in clubs. As much as possible, the music pools would like to hear feedback from the DJs especially on the tracks that were downloaded. They need to know whether these work or not .
