Proper Care and Feeding of an Email List

One of the most valuable considerations in making money on the internet is the all mighty mailing list. It doesn’t matter what product you have, without the mailing list, how are you going to effectively communicate your message? My particular product method is ebooks, paper books, and Kindle. Do you know how difficult it is to sell books on the Internet? That’s why I have been learning about mailing lists. Here is what I have learned so far about getting and keeping them.
Mailing lists are hard to develop. My first suggestion if you need to develop one is to create and give away something of value. In my case I write smaller ebooks and place them on my sites where surfers can stop by and pick up…in exchange for their email address. Then they are happily on their way richer for stopping by and, to me, one more name on the list. Another contact. Cool beans.
You could get creative about getting your list. Besides the obvious buying or renting them (not recommended) you could hook up with fellow thinkers and share email blasts to mutually build lists. Also you could get involved with a Joint Venture give away. I’ve done this before and the contacts are fantastic. In other words, social networking could go a long way to build your list.
Once you start getting some names on your list, the next thing to do is keep in contact. The reason here is that people forget about you. Sad but true, a mailing list that is neglected, is soon to go the way of the dinosaur. This can be difficult, I know, but vitally important. Of course using a good autoresponder service can make this task much easier. Basically you can write all your future contact emails and have them mailed at later dates of your choosing.
Another good way to keep your mailing list is to keep developing free items and give it to your members. Or maybe have a newsletter which offers useful information. Basically your goal is to remind your members why they stopped by your site in the first place. Now you are the guy in the background jumping up and down waving your arms and saying, “I’m still here!”
If you are thumping your head against the wall trying to find ways to keep your email lists intact, here is a thought. Remember your social networking that helped build your list in the first place? What about contacting them again? Perhaps they have a new give away and would love the chance to send to a fresh audience. Besides helping you, you are helping them. The spiritual reciprocation should never be overlooked.
I suppose the main point here is that building a mailing list is only half the battle. Knowing how to keep them interested in your message is the other half. If you doubt your creative resources, then rely upon your social networking. People love to help and fresh ideas will help you immensely.
When trying to build an online presence, the mailing list is vitally important to your survival. Be creative, hook up with friends and peers. Then once the names start rolling in, keep things fresh and inviting. New products and constant contact are the keys if you want a vibrant list to keep your Internet dreams alive!
