How to Use Poker Cut Cards
by Christine Harrell(544)
The use of poker cut cards is a must for anyone wanting to deal poker in a professional manner. Inexperienced dealers tend to unintentionally show the bottom card while dealing, but the use of a poker cut card can prevent the players from getting a sneak peak at the bottom of decks.
A poker cut card is a piece of plastic that is the same size and shape of a playing card. It is usually one solid color front and back, and it is placed on the bottom of a stack to shield the bottom from view.
You should purchase at least one at the same time that you purchase high quality sets of playing cards; otherwise, it can be purchased separately from any retail establishment that specializes in gaming supplies.
Dealers should choose one that is a contrasting color with the back color of the set of playing cards so that it remains easy to see and does not accidentally get shuffled into the deck.
Dealers are taught to always keep the stack face down and never pick up the full deck without a cut card on the bottom. Many casino dealers will spread the decks out on a table and mix them around. Then, they shuffle by keeping both sides of the deck very low to the table and shuffling the corners of the cards together using their thumbs.
There are two methods one can use when using these cards while dealing for a poker game. The first method involves sliding it into the middle of the deck. The dealer should then pick up the top portion of the deck with the cut card concealing the bottom one, place the lower half on top, and commence dealing.
The second method involves the dealer placing the cut card on the table next to the full deck. Then, after the dealer or one of the players performs the cut, the portion of the deck that was removed should be placed onto the cut card. Then, the remainder of the cards should be placed on top.
Those who wish to practice dealing should try both methods and decide which one suits them best.
Regardless of the method used, one should always cut a deck by using only one hand, to prevent any accusations of performing a false cut or other dishonest maneuvers.
Learning how to use these playing cards when dealing poker can turn any prospective poker dealer into a professional.
