Everyone wants to be like the great creative sites of Apple, Facebook and Google. And let’s face it: today you can’t afford to be the person kicking the dirt without any ideas of your own. What many don’t understand is that creativity is not just an innate quality some people have; creativity is a muscle that has to be regularly exercised. In the same way people go to the gym to keep themselves fit, you need to regularly practice to keep your creativity in top shape.

Introducing Eric the Circle, the next generation of social media, the virtual gym for your brain. Eric the Circle is the world’s draw-it-yourself cartoon whose content is created entirely by users. He allows people to express themselves through cartoons and offers the opportunity to vote, comment and get rewarded financially for their creations. With Eric, users have unlimited freedom to give their mind a much better work out than 140 characters can offer, and get feedback and inspiration from other creators on the site. Using Eric is a great way to get your brain in the right frame for creativity and coming up with ideas which can be applied to a business. Even the smallest idea can trigger something great.

Google didn’t pop up over night, it was created from a series of small ideas which fueled the company and gave it it’s “spark”. Google encourages people to quit thinking in methodical and linear ways and to start thinking innovatively. Google has done this to worldwide renown with their Google “doodles” or the changing graphics of the Google brand name on their site masthead. This practice was started in 2000 by Dennis Hwang, an intern at the time who now heads webpages and doodles at Google. You never know where one small idea can lead. Since its beginning there have been over 700 doodles designed internationally.

Eric the Circle had over 1000 cartoons created within its first week of operations. Unlike Google, Eric the Circle is user generated, meaning that the content and topics are always changing. Creators can see their cartoons transformed from a quick thought, to a picture on the page available for everyone to see, to possibly printed on a T shirt or on the page of the newspaper being read next to them on the train. They can even create cartoons on the go through the Eric the Circle application on the iPhone, making the opportunity to act on inspiration almost limitless.

Eric can be a visual status update, because he can be shared across all mediums of social media. Beyond the recognition through the voting on the Eric the Circle website, and the ability to display cartoons on Facebook, Twitter and email, cartoons are selected weekly to be added to the Eric store. Top voted cartoons are made into mugs, aprons and other products that are then sold to the public, with the creator receiving royalties for their work. So now you can be paid to preform your creative workout. Here’s to a well-rounded creative brain!
