Many people have never had to ship a vehicle before and when faced with the challenge one might become overwhelmed with the vast number of companies out there that provide Auto Transport Services. This does not have to be a stressful process. There are some simple basic things you need to know to get this set up, and leave it to the professionals.
Identify The Shipping Company
First and foremost is to identify the company in which you will be working with. A simple internet search will provide you many options. Many companies allow you to put in your basic information and receive instant quotes from some of the most top rated companies. You then can speak to a representatives to get a feel for the company. A visit in person might be well worth the trip if you decide to go with a local company.
Check Reputation
You can easily go to the BBB online and check history, customer reviews, complaints and what was done to resolve any issues. You might also ask friends or family who have shipped a vehicle in the past and consider their experience.
Check For Adequate Insurance
Once you have discussed your needs with a representative, there are a few additional things you will need to do. You will want to make sure that they offer adequate insurance and can provide you the documents that will ensure that should any damage or theft occurs during shipping, it will be covered. Make sure to know exactly what will be covered and what will not be covered. Become aware of any exclusions or restrictions that could affect your coverage during the transport. You may need to purchase additional insurance with the auto transport company, or even your own personal insurance. This is much more common when shipping a higher end or classic car.
Remove Any Personal Items.
Thinking of shipping additional items in your car? Think twice when doing this. Items of personal nature are not covered with the Auto transport insurance. It is even best to also take off any removable items to lessen the chance for damage to occur such as extra mirrors, antennas, tire and headlight covers, etc.
Be Present During Inspection
You should be present during the pre shipping inspection as well as the post shipping inspection. You need to make sure the condition of your car is accurate and the "bill of lading" is signed by both you and the driver. Once this is done any additional damage found on the post inspection should be covered.
The auto transport process does not have to be a difficult one if done correctly. Follow these basic tips and your car will delivered safely to its new destination in a safe and secure manner. This allows you to relax and concentrate on other things, while allowing the professionals to take this off your hands.
