The recent announcement by Hewlett Packard (HP) that they are seeking to get rid of their PC department came as a surprise to some of us, and has now cast some doubts over the long term viability of the PC business in general. Since the launch of the iPad, the PC market has taken something of a knock as buyers have embraced the switch to the noticeably more portable tablet and laptop alternatives. This leaves personal computer buyers with something of a decision to figure when it is time for their next acquisition; really should they drop down their cash on a big name PC or opt for a lesser known or no high end instead?
