by Cody.J(1)
You don't like to see your finches unhappy and sad due to their poor living conditions and that's the reason why you should offer them some of the best and most comfortable bird cages for finches. Comfortable and well constructed cage has a significant importance for maintaining your little pets happy and beautiful. A bird in poor psychological condition has an increased risk for development of a physical illness and this is one of the reasons why many so-called bird enthusiasts fail in attempt for successful keeping of finches. But wait! I don't have intention to discourage you; I only want to tell you some basic tips about cages and their overall meaning for your birds' happiness.
- Don't rush with buying a cage if you haven't seen enough various offerings. Gathering useful information is very important to make the right decision. You can consult experienced breeders as well as the Internet and you will see how wonderful choices you have. Not all cages for parakeets are suitable for finches, because these birds have particularly different lifestyle and different needs. Rectangular cages are usual among finch enthusiasts.
- They need enough space to spread their wings during the short flights in the cage. For their best, you should buy a decently long cage and its width has to be at least 10 centimeters more than wings when they are outspread.
- Finches will get nervous if cage is cluttered with perches, swings and toys because such things obstruct their need for moving and flying, but it can also cause injuries.
- The more birds you have, the bigger cage you need. Before you introduce new birds in the cage, consider that there will be still enough space for other birds. A congested cage is not recommended because that situation undermines birds' harmony and can easily lead to depression or aggression.
- Cages made of stainless steel are the best. They are not toxic and they can not endanger the health of your cute pets. When birds pick the bars, they don't ingest harmful chemicals. Cages made by that material are easy for cleaning and disinfection.
- Finches need a proper day and night cycle, which means they have to be provided with enough light during the day and they need to sleep in dark. There are very useful cage covers that provide safety and darkness during the night hours. A quality and undisturbed sleep is closely related with general health and good mental condition of pet finches. You can make a useful cover by yourself or you can buy one in pet shops as well as you can order it through the internet.
- Place the cage on a proper place with enough air and ventilation, but still without draft because it can damage finches' health and cause serious illnesses.
- Before you introduce a new finch in the cage, make sure that the bird is healthy. For that purpose, you should keep it in quarantine until you aren't sure, otherwise it can infect the other birds.
- If you plan to breed finches, provide the cage with nests, otherwise, they will never mate. Some finch enthusiasts don't like to deal with newly hatched babies and they are completely satisfied with their two birds. Of course, it's optional, so you can always change your mind.
I believe you will ask for much more information on cages for your finches, so that's why I'm here. I wish you a good luck with your little pets and I truly hope they will have long and happy lives.
