The Perfect Shot

by David Jefferson

There’s a lot of planning that goes into weddings it seems, you’ve got to think about the dress, the location, who’s sitting where to avoid any potential family scuffles, who you’re going to invite, and who you’re not going to invite. Each one of these factors has their own specific planning route that can have many things go wrong with it, which explains why weddings take so long to compile and why they have their own planners, whose very job circles around having whatever you want and ensuring there’s always a backup plan, of course all of this comes at quite a heavy price, and so its no wonder that many people choose to forego the inclusion of a wedding planner and just do it all themselves. I agree that this is the best way to do it, because that way, you’re certain you get what you want at a price you’d be willing to pay for it all. Of course, these will all contribute to the happiest day of your life, although the same may not be said for all of your guests, but what about the things that you should feel that are being done professionally? Its easy to scout out locations for yourself, and to choose what flower arrangement would best match the dress and decor, but for things that would include everyone in, and would need a professional to do? In these cases, specifically those of catering to a large group or for the all important wedding photo, then it’d be best to leave those in the hands of caterers and professional photographers respectively.

In fact, on the subject of wedding photographers, there are plenty of things you should look for when trying to book a professional one. Firstly ensure that the people you’re hiring aren’t some average Joes trying to make an opportunistic bit of cash, because that may leave your photos looking substandard. Always make sure that they are members of the Royal Photographic Society, because this ensures that they are professional photographers and will cover your wedding throughout the day which will result in top quality pictures. In a similar vein to the need of professional photographers, you’ll need a strong team of caterers to handle such a large reception, so always ensure that they have their food hygiene certificates, because you don’t want your wedding to be forever associated with Uncle Herbert spending most of the day vomiting in the toilet because a dodgy mini sausage roll or two, do you?.

Its also worth pointing out that, as far as photographers go, some will offer a  ‘Trash the dress’ package which consists of the bride in her dress in some natural background, be it on a beach with the sea and sun behind her, or in a forest surrounded by the greenery, which can look very nice along side pictures from the big day. Either way, its best to immortalise the happiest day of your life, so make sure its captured by professional photographers.
