Loving My Dad
by Maxine Headd
I will always love and miss my Dad. He was always there to comfort me when I needed him, talk to me, and hold me in his arms if I needed to be held. And I did. I remember when I went through my first divorce how he comforted my in his arms. I was seven months pregnant and I felt him crying for me as well as I was crying.
I also remember when he just simply sat and talked with me about life, how to make it through life, and how to just smile when things became too rough. He was always saying smile and the world will smile with you, but cry and you will cry alone. I remember him teaching me patiently how to drive a car, telling me the rules of the road, as we were driving down country lanes and talking to me about conditions of the road when I was driving.
Dad was a comfort to me when I landed in the hospital with my second child through consecutive vomiting episodes. I was dehydrated and the hospital could not get the vomiting to stop. Dad called me one night and told me that he had been praying for me with a bible placed across his chest. I slowly recovered through a nurse feeding me teaspoons of tea. Then after a while whatever had me broke with a heavy sweat and I began to get better.
I remember Dad teaching me how to play the guitar, again patiently teaching me the chords with his foot patting the rhythm to the music as we played. I practised intently and in a few weeks I was playing my first song on the guitar. I remember when Dad came to visit me with my Mother in Law after Mom had passed away and I was deolighted to see him. I will always love my dad. These are just a few ways that he was a comfort to me.
