Blair and Brown are ruining my holiday Part 2

Britain's asylum system is in tatters and news of this is spreading to the continent where as we speak illegal migrants are putting on their sandals and Manchester United shirts, packing their belongings into a tea bag and leaving their hut for the promised land.

Calais is under siege from impoverished Africans and Eastern Europeans waiting for the opportunity to sneak into Britain. To the illegal migrants we, the English, welcome them with open arms, give them money, food, a roof over their head, medical care etc etc and all for nothing. Yes its free. We place our welfare state at their disposal.

The UK Border Agency, which is meant to police ports like Calais has been described by Labour's Keith Vaz as "not fit for purpose". Well what were you doing with it from 1997 to 2010? It is a fact that for ten years the problem has got worse and worse and despite Labour's protestations they have pussy footed around a problem and pushed it under the carpet leaving someone else to pick up the pieces. Not unlike the financial crisis.

100,000 asylum seekers have been allowed to slip through because people are not doing their job. We have overpaid civil servants who haven't got a clue. How difficult can it be to say no - go home, you have no right to be here, you are not welcome.

Why are we so soft? The French are different. They treat asylum seekers with no respect and actively encourage them to leave the country, if you get my drift. Red tape, multiple layers of appeal and human rights legislation constrains a totally inadequate system which in simple terms is an open door.

People with no legal right to economic migration abuse asylum arrangements designed to offer refuge to victims or persecution and force themselves into Britain. Fewer than ten per cent will be sent back despite the fact that they do not qualify for asylum in the first place. So once again how difficult is it to say no!

Forget the red tape, forget appeals etc. Key policy must be to swiftly deport every single asylum seeker whose application fails to make the grade. We are a small island which is beginning to sink. No I’m not a nationalist I just believe in fair play. We as a nation do more than our fair share but we are not a bottomless pit although if something doesn’t happen soon we will become just a pit.
