How to Save Your Marriage After Separation - Ways to Make it Work
by Jessica Andrews(338)
A marriage won't survive if you're not eager to meet each other in between.
This does not mean you should try and control your partner or vice versa, or that you should back down to things where you really have a strong view.
Although compromising is essential, it's not the answer for everything. Some job choices, having a baby, certain spiritual principles, and other non-bendable moral or ethical lifestyles can't, and perhaps shouldn't, be allowed to just "slip away.".
The "small stuff," however, like certain financial habits, work or recreational patterns, and other day-to-day happenings really should be worked out to find a mutual understanding.
Communication
You need to be honest when dealing with your partner if you actually want the relationship to work. Many couples think that yelling and screaming at each other, or giving each other the silent treatment, is an effective way to get their point across.
Doing these only pushes your spouse further away.
You have to clearly state what you need from your partner; don't expect them to be able to read your mind.
Marriage Counseling
This is nothing to be ashamed of! Marriage counselors can be excellent resources for reinforcing a marriage. You may have to look around to find a counselor who you both can relate to, particularly if your marriage is unconventional.
Put forth the effort, though, and you'll be glad you did! A trained counselor can give you an impartial view on the issues in your marriage, without getting wound up in all of your past baggage.
Following the practical and reasonable suggestions of a reliable marriage counselor can really mean the difference between success or failure in a relationship, though.
If you are prepared to meet your spouse halfway whenever possible, communicate openly, calmly, and honestly, and WORK HARD to improve your relationship, you certainly have a better chance!.
You can surprise yourself when you dedicate some time considering why you want to stay in the relationship and the best ways to make it happen.
