Cover Page Design
What is a cover sheet for a resume? A cover page design for the resume provides a summary of what you have to offer a potential employer. Take the time necessary and put all of your time and energy into writing an effective cover sheet. It will be the first thing they see and it is essential that it moves them to take action. The more unique and distinguishing you can be the more you will be noticed. This is where you let them know of your interest in the position and why you are the best choice for the position. Keep your background information original. You will want to state a case that is persuasive enough for them to call.
Your cover sheet should also be written with no spelling errors and must have proper grammar. It is important, with cover letters for job applications, that you show what you know about the company and how you can make a difference. Write naturally as if you are talking to them personally. Below is an example of how to write a thank you letter. Just fill in the areas with CAPS.
It is important to know that they may still have you fill out an application. Be prepared with your work history and references along with their contact information. Be over prepared. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Your Contact Information:
City, State, Zip Code
Their Contact Information:
Name (if you have one)
City, State, Zip Code
Dear Mr./Ms. LAST NAME (Dear Employer or To Whom It May Concern if you don’t have a name)
In response to your JOB position I am enclosing a resume showing my background, education and experience. (Why you are writing them. Include who referred you if you have a name to drop.)
I have YEARS experience… (Explain how long you worked at a comparable job and what duties you fulfilled.)
I have considerable experience with JOB position… (This is the moment where you will explain your resume’s content without repeating it. Include any awards you have won, responsibilities you had in training others, and how you developed relationships within your department. Let them know of your qualifications and abilities. Show them evidence that you have researched their company thoroughly and that you possess skills that will benefit the organization. Stress your accomplishments and problem-solving skills.)
I appreciate your considering me for the JOB position. May I arrange an interview to further discuss my qualifications? I will work around your schedule. Thank you for your time. (Echo your interest in the job and let the employer know how and when you are available for contact.)
Sincerely, (Best Regards)
Handwritten Signature (if mailing a letter)
