One of a Kind

I was thinking about some things today and this thought crossed my mind. We are all “one of a kind”, individual people, doing what we do with the ability that we have been given to do it.

One of the things that I was thinking about is music. I listen to music a lot. When I was growing up my family, and a lot of others, listened to country music. I loved it! After I became a Christian I changed the kind of music that I listened to. It started out being country gospel but it has evolved into praise and worship, which is my favorite but I enjoy a variety of gospel music.

The thing that got me to thinking about music is the fact that I have a lot of music and I have found that I get bored if I listen to one particular band or group because each group has a “one of a kind” sound. Every one of the songs that they have are based on “their” style of music, which is not bad, but I get bored and I usually turn it off. My solution has been to take C D’s that I have and make my own from them, mixing the different groups and sounds, some slow, some fast, different styles, and I find that I enjoy them more and get more out of what I am listening to. Does that make sense to any of you out there? Maybe it does, maybe not, but I have a point to make…….but it is not about music, it is about God’s word and those who preach and teach it.

I have noticed that ministers have the same abilities that these music groups have. Each one has the gift to preach what God has put in their hearts and their spirits and everything that they preach or teach is based on the same subject. God’s word fits together, and because it does, they [we] usually end up right back where we started from. Some teach grace, some teach morals, and some give a message of warning and urgency and some exhort and lift us up to encourage us to keep going on no matter what comes our way.

We have people in the body of Christ who work so well at teaching our children and our young people and believe me they are truly “one of a kind” and no one else can do it the way that they do. I have seen some of them try to get into another part of the ministry but it did not go well because they were called to that particular part of the ministry. We must stay in our calling if we want to get things accomplished. I am not saying that we all have ONE calling or purpose in the body of Christ because that is not true. We just need to find where we fit and be “ONE OF A KIND” there. I am not sure that I have found exactly where I fit in but I will work as hard as I can, where I am at, for now.

I tend to get discouraged because everything that God gives me is always, for the most part, what some people call a hard word. I realize that we must take the good with the bad to get the benefits of a balanced life. We can’t walk around all of the time with a happy go lucky attitude; if we do we will be out of balance and end up in a place that won’t be fun for us.

We must get everything that we need from God’s word. It is all in there. There is grace, peace, hope, blessings, curses, trials, tribulation, salvation, deliverance, and it takes different people who have that “one of a kind” gift to get it preached. We have to have all of it to be able to survive and be what God intends for us to be.

The good in God’s word IS good but the bad in His word can also be good FOR us. The goodness of God brings men to repentance because God IS a good God but there are times in the lives of His people when we have to look at situations and realize that what we or others are going through is for “The Greater Good’. The greater good is not for today but for the end results. It might not be going good for you today but it will be in the near future if you realize that it IS for the greater good. When whatever you are going through today is over, it will be good again, if you keep trusting God.

I have realized that God has people out there that have one message to preach and teach and they have it rooted down deep in their spirit. That is why they can’t ever talk or teach or preach anything else. When people have a one track mind, with one purpose in their mind, then things will be accomplished.

Well I don’t know if you have been encouraged by this word today but I have and I know that we all need to be encouraged from time to time. It is hard to go on sometimes, especially when we aren’t seeing any results. I know one thing; I will go on and do what God leads me to do. I might get discouraged and take a few days off but “I WILL BE BACK” no doubt about it. I hope that you will too.

Kathleen, I felt inspired to write an article about music, and had no idea this would be a part of your article. Do you think the Lord is trying to tell people something?

I loved your article. I used to tell my kids that the gospel was like dough. You must follow the recipe exactly, but you could use any kind of cookie cutter to cut out the cookie or your life(our uniqueness).
