Psalms 64:1-10
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer: preserve my life from fear of the enemy. Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity: Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them? They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep. But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly shall they be wounded. So they shall make their own tongue to fall upon themselves: all that see them shall flee away. And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.
Like David we all have our enemies. There are those who persecute us because we serve God. And like David’s enemies they use their tongues like a sword to destroy us. Their bitter words pierce us like sharp arrows to kill and wound those who serve the one true God. Like sheep we are slaughtered al the day long, in word and deed by our enemies. And yes they lay snares in hopes that we will be caught and destroyed. They do these things in secret thinking that no one will know. Who will ever see them or hear them? If they only knew our God and how He watches our backs, He is our rear guard and He hears every plan that is made concerning us.
God IS our avenger! Vengeance is mine saith the Lord. God will shoot at them with an arrow, [arrow in Hebrew means….thunderbolt] yes He might use an actual thunderbolt. He will take actions and whatever He decides to use is perfectly all right with me. We need not do anything to our enemies except to pray like David did. God will keep us from fear of our enemies, from the secret counsel of the wicked, from all those workers of iniquity. God has always taken care of His people, and He will never fall short in keeping His word to us who serve Him.
Many have been the times that I have wanted to take matters into my own hands because of my flesh but the word says that if we walk in the Spirit that we will not fulfill the lust of our flesh and for the most part I have done that. I am not saying that I have always been one hundred percent on that but it has been a long time since my flesh has won.
When all people see what God has done on our behalf we will see men fear God. They will begin to declare the work of God and they will consider what He as done for us. What a great witness that is!
The righteous shall be glad in the Lord and we shall trust Him, we will give glory to the one who is our avenger, to the one who fights our battles. God fights battles for us that we never even know about. Although He fights our battles, like David, we may be confronted face to face with an enemy from time to time. When those times come we must trust God to stand with us and when we do, our enemies will always be defeated and God will get the glory.
