Love Is The Fulfillment Of The Law.

by MJ Kennedy

What does it mean " for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law " ? The Bible makes it clear when it tells us " do not murder " , " do not steal " and all other commandments are summed up in one rule. What is that rule? It's the statement that we all have been introduced to at some point of our lives. A lot of us when we were children, and it has been deemed the golden rule. " Love they neighbor as they self " . Love is the fulfillment of the law and that brings me to my next question, how do we love our neighbor? First of all, we have it mapped out for us in the word of God. " Love must be sincere, and we must hate what is evil " . So much could be said from this statement alone. We need to become devoted to our brothers and our sisters and I am not talking about our biological family, I am talking about everyone around us. We are to honor them above ourselves. We need to share with those in need, we need to show hospitality rather than using hostility. Do good to those who persecute you, rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn. Do not get revenge when you feel compelled to act on it. Live at peace with everyone.

Our people on this planet need love. The Beatles said it best when they said, " all you need is love, love is all you need " . Love is the key, it is the answer, it is the fulfillment of the law. Christ demonstrated the purest most undenialble act of love when he sacrificed his life for ours. Jesus came to us as a baby. He grew, he learned, he taught. He was one of us and he knew all about the love-hate relationships among people. However, Jesus never demonstrated hate, but he himself was hated by many, yet he was willing to show his true love for even those who could not stand what he stood for. Jesus had enemies, yet he did not overcome evil by evil. We too are not to overcome evil with evil acts. If you have enemies do what the Bible says to do. " If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this you will heap burning coals on his head " . (Romans 12:20)

We can bring hope to the hopeless, joy to the downcast, food to the hungry, peace where stress and unhappiness are rampant in one's heart. But most of all, we can bring Jesus. Jesus is Love. He is the answer and we need to die to ourselves and let Jesus be the one who is seen when others look at us. Jesus came to fulfill the law and he did it through love. So when you look in the mirror tonight, is the person staring back at you going to feel fulfilled and satisfied? Or are you going to remember that someone needed you today and you passed it off because you were either too busy, or you really did'nt care? No matter how small an opportunity may be, just remember that the opportunity could make a big difference and small things become big when they are placed in the hands of God and you do this by showing some love...
