Spiritual Warfare: the Belt of Truth

THE TRUTH
Jesus answered, " I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. " ~John 14:6 (NIV)
Yet You are near, O LORD, and all Your commands are true. ~Psalm 119:151 (NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ~John 1:1 (NIV)
A dictionary-like definition of truth is something in opposition to what is false or a lie, and God's Word shows us that Jesus is truth. We often think of truth as something intangible, but it's not. Truth is Jesus. Truth is His Word. God stands in direct opposition and contrast to the prince of lies and falsehood . So when we gird ourselves with the belt of truth, we are, in effect, girding ourselves with Christ.
THE BELT: A Defensive Weapon
In ancient times, men wore long robes. Before they entered a battle it was necessary to gather their robes and secure them so they wouldn't get their feet entangled. It is the same for us today. If we aren't girded with the truth, we will stumble and fall in the heat of battle. While a seemingly small piece of armor, not equipping ourselves could lead to fatal consequences.
I find it interesting that the belt of truth is mentioned first. My prayer is that I will first and foremost be clothed with Christ and grounded in His Word.
Everything else is secondary.

How blessed we are to be Your children. Children of Truth. May we never forget that our best line of defense is, and always will be, You.
