Peace

by Shirley Scurlock

I watch people walking in and out church doors so distant they barely notice one another. Many are so burdened with the cares of this life – they have no peace! John 14:27 I leave you peace, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. He said n ot like the world gives peace, but my peace I give to you. Let’s look at the differences:

How does the world give peace?

They use medications, mediations and much more. They numb your mind with artificial peace. They deceive people with their own conclusions and explanations; leaving them looking inward rather than toward God. They have the lottery, bankruptcy court and liposuction. The secular world’s new message: I deserve to get more has permeated the church, destroying people when they fail to achieve it. They run to fortune tellers and horoscopes looking for some bit of hope, some chance tomorrow will be better than today. They place all their hope in the doctors’ prognosis, or the latest test report. The peace the world gives is temporary and it depends on circumstances of this life. There is no peace in this world or its secular teachings.

How did Jesus give peace?

John 16:33 these things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. He taught His disciples to trust someone outside themselves. He said to them – look at what He has done – and because he did it –they can to! Jesus offers peace that transcends this world. It’s a knowledge or faith that this world has no power to kill or destroy us! It is the understanding that when we are sick or near death – it’s not the end – it is just the beginning! It’s the ability to lay every worry or fear on His shoulders: 1Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you. We know He can heal, deliver and set free. He can bring us back from the brink of death or take us home, and as Christian we know we can trust (have peace in) His decisions. Have you ever felt unloved? Have you noticed people want you to listen to them, as much as you need them to hear you? Our lives are so uncertain. We all face troubles on our journey home and we all need someone to care! When the attacks come we can either trust self, secular advice, or the Lord. Christ. He is the only one who cares unwaveringly. He is the only one who has a firm grip on the future. The Lord cared enough to leave us peace. He left it to us like a Father whose will gives His children all His earthly goods. The riches of a fathers love leaves his children with all he worked for. Our Lord left us peace and for many of us, it’s still in the bank and we have never made arrangements to collect it! He gave it to us and death, disease or trouble can’t destroy us. These things are only inconveniences to the Children of God. Our home is far beyond this plain and any pain or trial is temporary. It’s not the end – it is the beginning!

Not sad at all. It was a wonderful article. Your article is still recent and should be drawing more and more comments as time passes.

God bless you,
