Small Bathroom Remodel Ideas

by Peter Tong

Bathroom furniture is very important. It can really make your home's most intimate room beautiful. But it is the minor details that really take your bathroom to the next level. The small details can provide comfortable function feel to your bathroom. Clutter is never cool. Which is tough to avoid in small bathrooms. Bathrooms come in all sizes but there are probably as many small bathrooms as their is large bathrooms. Therefore making the most of the space you have is essential. Once again its the small details that create the atmosphere in your bathroom. When you are dealing with a small space you want to make it seem bigger. Claustrophobia is never a great feeling. By adding mirrors you can give off the impression that the bathroom is larger than it is. Try to get smaller fixtures IE lighting, toilet, vanity. Make sure the vanity mirror and sink are relative in size. There is nothing worse than a huge mirror over a small vessel sink. This disproportional style is confusing to the eye and makes the bathroom look sloppy. The placement of mirrors is key as well. With your small bathroom you want to eliminate as much clutter as possible. It is key to have small hidden drawers, an in wall medicine cabinet and possibly a small closet. Utilizing the vanity for storage space is also a good thing. There are small vanities on the market that have some storage space. Try utilize shelves but only put neat things on these shelves such folded towels, candles... not an open tooth paste container, tooth brush, a comb with or without the hair, a newspaper or magazine, etc. I could go on for days about the stuff that your guests should not have to see when they are in the bathroom. Let them do their own snooping. You can really tell a lot by what a person has in their medicine cabinet. Anyways enough with that rant. Basically keep it simple.

The bathroom colors really set the mood. Colors do have an effect on your subconscious mind. White, pale yellows, some light pastel colors make your bathroom feel more open. So try to use these shade variations. Darker colors do not utilize light and make the bathroom feel smaller. When you are shopping for paint make sure you ask an expert about water proof paints. It is an absolute nightmare watching paint chip in your bathroom because of a few steamy showers. Also go the extra mile when paying for your bathroom's paint, quality counts. Let's move onto the lighting. Try to provide enough light so the space feels open and comfortable. You do not want the bathroom to feel like a police interrogation and certainly not like you are in a dimly lit cocktail lounge. Try putting a light on the ceiling and maybe one to enhance the vanity. Try not to make the vanity light too bright, it may be a confidence killer. If you are choosing to go with any type wood in your bathroom. Use lighter woods like oak or maple. I think you may know this by now but light enhances space, dark closes in a space. Finally try to get all Eco-friendly materials for your bathroom. This includes recycled goods, pre-used, bamboo, and water saving devices like low flow dual flush toilets.

In order to save water use one of the many water saving toilets which you find in most stores most . Dual flush toilet are a version of the low flow toilet that save a lot of water. It doesn't matter if it is a regular toilet or wall hung toilet just as long as it saves water.
