People have a lot of questions about prayer and how to pray. One of the biggest questions is, why are some prayers not answered? Because of unanswered prayers, some people stop praying and lose faith in God.
How to Pray Article Series: Unanswered Prayers is a two-part series that discusses the different reasons why some of our prayers are not answered.
So, what are the reasons why God does not answer some prayers? What can we do about it?
We can never really know why God does not answer some of our prayers since we do not really know his ways and his thoughts. Sometimes we think that he did not answer our prayer because what we we're expecting did not happen. Sometimes we just have to wait it out because the answer to our prayers is exactly what we need and not what we are asking for. We just have to trust His wisdom and power.
God can answer us with either of these answers "I will give you what you are asking for, but you have to wait for the right time", "I will answer your prayer, but not in the way you are expecting", "I will give you what you want and a lot more", "Yes, I thought you would never ask for it", or "No, I won't give you what you are asking because it is not good for you."
A lot of people think that even though they pray so hard and for a very long time, they do not get any result, not even a little evidence that God is changing things. No changes happen, life goes on as usual.
I can think of a few possible reasons why some of our prayers are unanswered. One of these is an ungrateful heart. We often complain to God when we do not get what we asked for but we forget to thank him for the things he have given us.
Being grateful is very important in having a closer relationship with God. God is delighted every time we give thanks for all his blessings. Being thankful, gives us the chance to receive more from God.
If you keep on complaining though, it would be hard for God to give us what we are asking. Why would God give it to us when it would be another reason for complaining? Learn to be grateful to God at all times.
Another reason for unanswered prayers is Pride. According to the first letter of Peter, chapter 5, verse 5, "God opposed the proud, but gives grace to the humble." God does not want pride; He wants us to be humble. A humble heart allows us to receive the grace of God while Pride blocks God's blessings.
Proud is not acknowledging that we need God and that without Him, we are nothing. It is denying our sinfulness and not accepting our dependence in God for forgiveness and mercy.
Being unforgiving is also another reason for unanswered prayers. We must have a forgiving heart when we pray to God. Unanswered is a major reason for unanswered prayers. In Mark chapter 11, verse 25, our Lord tells us that "Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your father in heaven may also forgive your trespasses."
