Wedding Band with Comfort Fit Not Just a Trend

Comfort fit is a term applied often in online jewellery websites but seldom explained properly. It is term for rounding down the inside wall of the ring, particularly wedding band in order to soften the edges in contact with the finger. This type of wedding ring feels much cozier and it is a great deal easier to put on and especially to take off. One is left curios why user-friendly feature as this is overlooked by the manufacturers and large part of the wedding bands on the market are still offered with flat interior wall and sometime really sharp edges. There is a good reason for this; considerable thickness is necessary to have a wedding ring comfort fit. This extra thickness adds sizeable amount of excess weight to the band and renders it inapplicable for low price directed designs.
On average 4.5mm wide men`s wedding band the additional weight is more or less 25%. Another decisive factor for the quality of the wedding ring is the fullness of the dome. This parameter contributes to a great extent to the weight and respectively to the cost, but on the other hand contributes greatly to the appearance and longevity. Good quality wedding bands have substantial thickness and never go off round in shape. Comfort fit wedding rings have less surface touching the finger hence are less likely to induce skin irritation due to sweat trapped in between. In my extended experience as studio jeweller I had numerous cases of cutting wedding band stuck and sometimes severely embedded in the customer`s finger, but not one of these rings was a comfort fit one. I am constantly recommending this type of wedding ring to my clients, use comfort fit on my engagement rings and even on dress rings if the design allows.
Practicality is frequently neglected feature when it gets to jewellery but for pieces like wedding bands and engagement rings is of great importance. These type of bands are worn all the time - daily and their design has to be adjusted with one`s life style. Here are some points worthy of consideration:
- The simplest to maintain and the most comfortable to wear wedding ring is the basic half round one.
- The flat inner wall wedding bands are becoming sharper while getting thinner from wearing.
- Avoid wedding bands with lot of fine detail or complicated finish; they will wear off in no time.
- If you really like more detail, select designs where the detail is embedded in groove or concave.
- If you can`t go without small detail, select only palladium or platinum. Any gold alloy will wear off much quicker.
- If you don't like highly polished wedding rings choose for one with brushed finish; it is the easier to freshen up.
- Avoid hollow wedding bands. They tend to induce bad skin irritation.
- Wedding bands with shadow line tend to accumulate grease form perspiration and cosmetics.
- Stay with noble metals (platinum, palladium) which are totally hypoallergenic or high carat yellow gold.
- Choose simple uncomplicated wedding ring designs. They will look good longer, demand less maintenance and feel comfortable.
