How to Get More Followers at Twitter

OK, so you want to get more followers at Twitter, but nothing seems to be working. You have waited and watched, but not a whole lot of people seem to be following you. Read on and discover important tips on how you can get more followers at Twitter.
Your Photo
One of the first things that any potential follower is going to look at once they have clicked on your Twitter account is your photo. Some Twitter members do not have photos and use a generic Twitter image. This can be unappealing to members looking to follow. If you want to attract followers, try downloading a photograph of yourself it can make all the difference in the world. If your Twitter account is not a personal account, you may want to download an image that illustrates the organization your Twitter account represents.
Your Bio
Your Twitter Bio is your calling card online. You must be thoughtful in exactly what you want your Bio to say, because in just a few short words people are going to be making a decision on whether or not you are interesting enough to follow. Some people try to put too much information on their Bio, kind of like the street hustler who is selling everything from watches to insurance plans from his trench coat. Hmmm… not a good idea.
Keep Your Bio Short and Concise
If you want to make a good impression with your Bio, keep it interesting and concise. Remember the type of Bio you have will determine what kind of people will follow you. If you are looking for people who love baseball, then you will want to mention that you are a baseball fan. If you are into physics, then you will want to mention physics. Whatever your interest is, will generally be the interest of those that follow you.
Block Unwanted Followers
However, not everyone that follows you at Twitter is going to do so because they are interested in what you are interested in. Some of them are only going to be interested in your money. You are going to have those “trench coat guys” rushing into your following and trying to hustle you with everything that is going to make your life “wonderful”. Watch for them. If you do not want them, block them.
Find a Niche
OK, so you have downloaded a great picture. You have decided that you want to focus your Bio on Baseball. You may want to narrow your Bio just a little bit more, depending upon the kind of followers you want. So, think about your audience and decide whom you want to target. If you want to attract people from the National Baseball League, then you will want to mention the NBL in your Bio. If you want to focus on a certain team, you will want to mention them, the Cubs, or the Giants. Alternatively, maybe your interest is in pitchers, bats, or baseball gloves.
Be Natural
Some people like to load a bunch of keywords on their Bio, hoping this will generate search traffic to their page. But, to be honest, it can look like junk. Of course, you want to use keywords, but you do not want to overdo it. You want your Bio to look and sound natural, not like something out of a thesaurus. Compare the following:
Keyword Bio: baseball, National Baseball League, Cubs, pitchers.
Natural: Chicago Cubs fan. I love their pitchers!
Add Your Website Link
Do not forget to add your url to your Twitter account. If you are like most people, you’ll have multiple urls. You will want to provide the url to the website that best represents you. Perhaps you are the owner or a member of CubsFans.com. That just might be the url you would want to use. On the other hand, you may want to refer people to your FaceBook account. If you are a blogger then you may want to send them to your page at Blogz.org.
Lead Your Followers
If people are going to follow you at Twitter… then they need to be lead. That makes you a leader. People follow leaders. If people are not following you then chances are you are not leading them. However, in order to be a good leader, you have to know how to be a good follower. Make sure that you are following other people at Twitter. If you do not know how to follow, then you will not know how to lead.
Once you know how to follow, then you can lead and show others how to follow. So, imagine a rope lying on a table. If you pull the rope to the right from one end, you can lead it in a straight line. However, if you push the rope from behind, the rope will bunch up into a mess.

The key to leading people is to be an example, to go before them and show them the way. This is important in generating followers at Twitter because people will not become your followers if you don’t…
1. Give them a reason WHY they should follow you.
2. Tell them HOW to follow you.
3. Show them WHERE following you will lead them.
This is especially important because in order to lead people to follow you on Twitter, you will need to promote your Twitter link.
Promote Your Twitter Link
There are many ways to promote your twitter link. Here is a quick list of some that you will want to use:
1. Tweet – Every time you tweet, you are promoting.
2. ReTweet
3. Write things that other people will want to ReTweet
4. Place your Twitter link or banner on other sites, like FaceBook, MySpace, Blogz.org, etc.
5. Email your Twitter link to your friends from your mailing list.
