Expert tips during tough economic times learning what you can do yourself in order to achieve success and when you should call on an expert to get the job done right .
During these tough economic times, businesses both big and small are struggling financially. I have met many business owners who have had to cut corners in order to make ends meat. Many businesses are trying to take on writing projects themselves in order to save some money and stay within their budget, but the trick is to know what projects you should try to take on yourself and what writing projects need to be handled by a professional writer, so you do not harm your business and cause profits to decline.
Below are some important tips I created to help you decide what projects you should and should not do by yourself.
- Social networking In today's tough economic times many businesses have turned to social networking as a means to help boost their business and increase their profits. If you have the time and you enjoy writing then by all means try it. Social networking is free and some popular sites that are good are squidoo.com, facebook.com, blogger.com, andwww.linkedin.com. Some important factors to remember are:
- Know your audience Focus on your targeted market and write as if you were writing a personalized letter or article to them. If you do not focus on your targeted audience then you are not going to attain positive results.
- Use spelling and grammar check Misspellings can destroy even the best sales and advertising messages. It does not matter how cleverly created the content may be. This principal holds true for grammatical errors as well. Most writing programs have a good grammar and spelling check. Programs like Microsoft word or Microsoft office have good grammar and spelling checks and can catch a majority of the error, but not all of them.
- Make sure you write it up SEO style . Use words that the search engines will pick up and then make sure you list those as your keywords when submitting the articles or blogs.
- Have a hook line and sinker with your link to your web site included If your title is not catchy and your first sentence is not interesting then consider yourself doomed! The titles always draws them in and remember it's the first and last thing that readers remember so your first paragraph has to be superb and the last thing has to be the link so they remember where to go for the service or the product.
- Advertising I always tell my clients to invest in good advertising. A small investment could lead you to a huge profit. You could create a great advertisement, but if it has errors or it is not set up in a professional manner, you could jeopardize everything. Instead of gaining business, you will lose business. Why chance it, when you can have someone who has expertise in the field create it for you. They already know what works and does not work and most of all they will make sure it is flawless so your business looked at by others as an amateur business. If you are set on doing it yourself then I would suggest purchasing a publishing program like Art Explosion Publishing Pro to help you design it.
- Press Releases Press Releases are tricky. They need to be brief, blunt and to the point with a dash of creativity, organization, uniqueness and the most important information wrapped up in no more than 2 to 3 paragraphs. Remember if you doubt your ability then maybe you should consider having a professional do the job for you. The last thing you want is the media making fun of you or business because the press release you created was not up to par. The business world is a cruel world so beware!
- Ask writing communities for help If you cannot afford a professional writer to help you achieve success then you may want to visit a writing community and ask them for a second opinion. One site you could visit is WritersMarket.com. Remember you can get plenty of help on these sites, but the dark side is that you do not know how much experience these person have in reference to the project you are trying to accomplish. Are they creditable or not?
Remember you spent a lot of time and money creating your business.
