10 Simple Ideas that Make Great Party Planning a Success

by George Faulkner(2)

Great party planning equates to coming up with nifty ideas and merging them with the basic party requirements. Such ideas revolve around your interests as well as those of your guests. Some of the ideas may seem far-fetched, especially when it comes to creating party themes, but remember, creativity can always bridge the gap between a thought and reality. So without further ado, here are 10 simple ideas that you can apply to your party.

Add a Pinch of Nostalgia

Adding a touch of nostalgia makes a party worth remembering. Think of the things that you totally miss, then try to mix some of them with the party's theme. For instance, you miss high school. You can set the party area up as a makeshift classroom, with a blackboard/white board in front and the emcee dressed up as a school teacher. The guests will wear their old school uniforms or at least replicas. School fair booths and other related fixtures will be placed throughout the grounds. Once the whole thing is ready, imagine how you and the attendants would feel?

Never Forget the Booze

A party without alcohol is like a chair missing a leg. Alcohol loosens people up, which makes mingling such a fun activity. It also helps release stress. So, in effect, your party will become the perfect weekend getaway. Everyone will sport a jovial mood before the festivities end. Of course, commemoration and having a good time are the main objectives of a party, and both standards can easily be met with alcohol.

Dedications

When preserving the moments during the party, sometimes having a guestbook is not enough. You need something more personal, something worth reading and remembering over and over. You can create a dedication book, in which all of the attendants will write their personal messages to you. After all, the party lasts for only a day, but a pile of dedications lasts forever.

Dare to be Different

Every person has been to a ton of parties. Starting from their childhoods to the present time, you have probably been to a hundred parties. Notice that only a few stand out, mostly those that have unique themes. Think of a way to make your party a bit different from those that you usually attend, so it sticks to the memories of all your guests.

Encourage Guest Participation

People enjoy when they feel that they are truly part of the festivities. The best way to do that is to promote interaction through the party's activities. You can add games, contests, and other activities that will make many of your guests, participants.

Bring a Guitar

Let's face it, everyone loves music. Having a guitar around gives you a chance to play some of your favorite tunes, with the guests being your backup singers. The others can also play or request songs for you to play. As a result, everyone will be happy, singing songs for a good number of hours.

Polaroids, Please

A picture captures a moment forever. A party happens to have hundreds of moments worthy to be remembered. Having your camera around gives your party immortality.

Setup a Web Meeting for Your Friends Overseas

Make everyone a part of the festivities by setting up a web meeting using instant messaging software, like Skype, MSN or Yahoo Messenger. Your friends overseas will treasure the act of bringing them to your party even if you're oceans apart.

Bonding Games

Some activities like, Spin the Bottle and Truth or Dare, encourage people to bond, even if they barely know each other. Fill your party with such and your different social circles will be one, for at least one night.

Arrange Cool Playlists

Music sets the mood everyone, especially if most of the guests like the songs. Arrange several playlists, enough to last for several hours, composed of songs that you and your friends adore. Everyone will soon be singing or dancing their hearts out, much to your liking.
