Writing And Sharing Memories

Creative Writing Strategies

All of us have memories of events that happened to us as we were growing up. The events in our lives range from serious to humorous to events that make us wonder what in the world was that. It is fun to share this information with other people. The enjoyment that they get from reading about events in someone else's life can add to the satisfaction of their own life.

Telling stories is one of the ways that we share this information with others. We have been sharing by telling stories for centuries and that is why we enjoy reading about history. You might prefer a certain type of story, your story might need to be humorous, or your story might need to be a drama. The library is full of books that can give you any type of story you prefer.

We follow stories on TV, through book series, and through storytelling events at bookstores or at gatherings. Your family may have a favorite story about you that you would prefer that they did not remember. There is a way for you to change your story.  By gathering information from an number of your different family members and saying to the family members present at the time the story begins about you what someone else remembered about the story. By adding additional data, the original story can change and you might find that you are less embarrassed when your family members began to share.

Some of the stories that we share with each other at common family gatherings like holidays, birthdays and special anniversaries are things that help us to remember our own history. Once certain family members have passed on, the memories of the stories that we used to share become even more important to us.

Go back through some of the stories that you remember that your family shared with each other, and see if you could add any of these events to the stories that you are writing now. Taking a pass from real-life, can give your story believability and add to the enjoyment for your reader.

Often times favorite stories are the ones that we read over and over. So have fun, create new stories mixed in with stories that you remember from growing up and see if you can create some memories that people will continue to enjoy for years to come.
