Throwing a party for a mother to be is a great way of showing her how special she is. There will be many things to consider before the day of the party such as who to invite and what games to play, but neither of those things are as important as the perfect baby shower menu.
A baby shower requires a lot of planning and quite a bit of prep work. The part that everyone will remember is the food and by planning the perfect menu it is likely that their memories will be good.
There will be many things to consider before setting up the menu such as how many people are coming, what type of food preferences everyone has, and your time restrictions. Once you have figured those things out you will be ready to plan your baby shower.
Menu ideas
The menu is the basis of the entire party and you want to make it spectacular. Remember to allow for some fun and try to have something for everybody.
One way to ensure that you have chosen the right variety of foods is to find out a little about all of your guests likes and dislikes. Another important factor is if one of them has a specific food allergy. You don't want to prepare something with nuts in it if a guest could have a reaction to it. That is a sure fire recipe for disaster. There is a wide variety of food options that will easily suit any guest.
For the appetizer: You need to choose wisely with this one since it is the first thing that your guests will be eating. There are many lovely options that you can serve like cream cheese filled tortilla roll ups that are great cut up into small pinwheels, dip and cut up vegetables, spinach dip with either tortilla chips or pitas, and of course an all time favorite of most people like chips and salsa. Don't forget to get mild for the mommy to be so you don't send her home with heartburn and indigestion.
The punch: A fabulous drink will be the one of the most memorable parts of your shower. There are several tasty punches that can make the day a sure hit. A sparkling white punch can easily be made with white grape juice and lemon-lime soda and it looks nice with the cake, or you could make an amazing sherbet filled punch with pineapple juice and a big scoop of sherbet in the center.
For a more customized punch you can make a punch that is a color reflecting the sex of the baby. For a girl you can combine some sort of soda with pink lemonade and raspberry sherbet, or for a boy you could do any type of blue raspberry drink and ice cubes made of blue juice.
Fabulous salads: Chicken salad is one of the most versatile choices for the main dish to your party. You can add some sesame noodles and mandarin orange slices to make it into a Chinese version or try some grapes and apples to give it a Waldorf type taste. Either choice will be quite tasty.
Choosing a cake: Of course the main food to any baby shower would be the cake. If you have a set theme for the party then get a cake that reflects that, but if not then you might want to choose one of the options given at the bakery.
Baby showers are fabulous and a great way for everyone to show the expectant mother their support. Planning a good menu will make the entire day just perfect.
