Are You Getting The Most From Your Self Defense Weapon

These days, even in the quietest of locations and even in broad daylight, there are a upsetting number of personal attacks taking place, many without rhyme or motive.
For instance, take the case of a sixty year old man in average health walking down a California street around 4:00 P.M. He was using a can for balance returning home from a get-together. Out of nowhere, suddenly he was jumped from behind by two young women and a young man trying to hold him up.
He had the habit of carrying a couple of dollars in his pockets, but his real money was inside his socks, which were, of course, inside his shoes. He emptied his pockets and gave up the two dollars and some coins, but still ended up with a slash in his forehead from his cane that the young man grabbed and hit him with.
There are more and more attacks on fully active streets whether at night or during the day. The time of day does not seem to matter; however, it is important to have a reliable and convenient means of protection so that you do not become a statistic.
In the case above, the man ended up getting first aid and everything turned out all right for him, this time.
Luckily, he suffered no lasting injuries. He also kept his real money and only lost the two dollars and change. However, this attack has altered his life and lifestyle. He was no longer comfortable taking walks, so he began taking the bus or calling a cab.
Let us look at his situation again and see what would have happened if the man had a Self defense weapon. Had he been equipped with a self defense weapon he could have used it and used it to immobilize his attackers. That would have certainly given the man time to get far enough away to get help.
What self defense weapons are available and which will give you the most for your money?
The Top of the line protection is the TASER C2 it will help you to feel and be safe no matter where you are, day or night. This device will allow you to defend yourself up to 15 feet from your attacker. If you have more that one attacker it can also be used as a close proximity stun device.
Stun guns come in many sizes and models. When choosing one of these self defense weapons the best advice is to get one that will fit easily in your hand with the highest voltage possible that your budget can afford.
Once you receive your stun gun do not just put the batteries in it, fire it, then for get it. Turn it on at least every other week and fire it.
This accomplished two things; it allows you to test the batteries and get you used to firing it so using the device becomes second nature.
Pepper spray is another alternative. This is the most common self defense tool. It comes in many sizes and formulas.
The formula you are looking for is the oleoresin capsicum commonly known as O.C. formula. For use when you are on the move get a 1/2 oz model for your key chain. For use when at home 4oz size and above is recommended.
Other considerations when choosing a defense spray is the pattern it delivers. There is stream, fogger, and gel. If your primary use will be out doors where there is a possibility of wind you would want to choose the gel spray.
If your use will be indoors, stream, fogger, and gel are all effective. My personal preference is the gel. It sticks to the skin giving you more time to get away since the attacker is dealing with his own set of issues.
Which ever form of self defense you choose make sure you know how to use it. Schedule practice time bi-weekly, so when and if the time arises you do not need to figure out how to use it.
