Where Can I Purchase College Textbooks Cheap?

This is one of the first questions my daughter asked when she enrolled in the local community college. One trip browsing through the campus bookstore let her know that she would have to be thrifty in this area as well as all others, in order to manage the expense involved in furthering her education. Seeing the prices on those revered volumes usually does come as a shock to first-time college students. Quite different from romance novels and fashion magazines! Indeed, after tuition the single biggest expense for college students is buying the required textbooks for the various classes.

So, where can I purchase college textbooks cheap? is certainly a legitimate question that deserves some attention. Here are several suggestions:

The quickest, most convenient way to find just the right books at a decent price is to ask other students that have completed the course whether they want to sell theirs. Most people don't collect textbooks. Once they have passed the course they just want to get the book out of their way.

And they are usually willing to accept whatever amount of money they can get for it, to put toward the cost of whichevcr book they need for their next course of study. Therefore, hanging out in the college bookstore is not a bad idea; its a good place to find those people who have books they need to get rid of. With a little negotiation, you may be able to talk them down to half price, or maybe even better than that if the book had been used when they obtained it.

Many college bookstores sell both new and used textbooks.

Besides the reduced price, a used book has another advantage; the previous owner may have already highlighted or underlined the important points for you!

Another possibility is to check out the bookstores off campus. Many college towns have specialized stores that exist for just this purpose.

Check the yellow pages in the telephone directory, or simply ask around. For a campus newcomer it can be one way to meet people and make friends.

And finally, if all else fails and you're still wondering where can I purchase college textbooks cheap ---- look online! Actually, this is probably the easiest place to find them anyway, so you might save yourself some time and effort by going here to start with. Do a little research and you're sure to find exactly what you need at a price your budget can handle.

I recently heard about some colleges putting all their textbooks online, to study from any computer. And you can print them out for about $30 each as opposed to hundreds of dollars each. I guess you would need to Google textbooks for your school to see if they are participating.

That sounds like a great idea!  All colleges should do so.  For that matter, all grade schools should, too.  No more lugging heavy books around all day.
