Its a mystery why we spend so much time adding just the right decorating touches to our homes, only to leave our bathroom, bare and stark. Although the shower curtain and towels are certainly necessary items, there is certainly a lot more involved to creating a lovely and inviting bathroom. Not only do we use the bathroom for bathing, we also become rejuvinated by the refreshing time we spend in this popular room. During our busy days, with our hectic schedules, the bathroom sometimes becomes a haven from the demands of a busy family life. For a lively theme, spruce up this busy room with a southwestern decorating scheme. You'll be amazed at the atmosphere a southwest bathroom creates.
Bright and cheerful colors should be used in your bathroom. Your room is much like the palette of an artist. Naturally, if you are decorating a master bath, the colors should complement those of the master bedroom. The bathroom for guests should be a easy room to decorate with a southwest theme since it isn't connected to a bedroom like the master bath. However both can be a fun and an enjoyable room to decorate.
When contemplating a southwest theme, there are a lot of different styles from which to choose. You may incorporate all or just certain elements. The many choices include rustic western and ranch, Native American, Mexican and Spanish and old mission. And since most baths are not large enough to hold furniture, the selection of accent pieces and accessories becomes vital to creating a room with a southwest flair. Love the things you place in your room.
The lid on your toilet may be replaced with a hand painted lid with a southwest scene. We should never have to use the same type of toilet lid covers our grandparents used. What fun it is to show off a unique piece of art by adding a western scene hand painted on the toilet lid. Themes such as a cattle drive, western desert scene, cowboy boots, or a stage coach traveling through the southwest desert could be incorporated. Let your imagination run wild. And you must admit, its an unusual place to display artwork. Family and friends will be sure to talk about your unique bathroom.
There are many other unique items that can be incorporated into your southwest bathroom. A great addition would be a large Indian basket in which to place rolled towels or a Mexican basket to use as a clothes hamper. Incorporate all sizes of baskets to hold all the small items needed in a bathroom. Beautiful Talavera pottery, made in Mexico, would be unique and a valuable way to dispense soap, tissues and hold tooth brushes. For a true southwest personality, choose the artwork for your bathroom carefully. Western towel racks and a punched tin mirror are perfect accent pieces. Be sure to add southwest style candle holders around your jacuzzi tub to add that romantic and restful touch.
There are many southwest patterned towels and shower curtains on the market today which would bring in bright and bold colors. A nice alternative to the normal bath mat would be to use a Zapotec runner in front of your tub to catch water drips and protect your flooring. A kiva ladder standing upright on which to hang folded towels and anything made of barbed wire gives your southwestern bathroom a look of rustic charm. From one designer to another, since we all have such different personalities, our decorating projects will definately come out different. One thing is certain however. After visiting your southwest bathroom, your guests will certainly come out with a smile.
