Guide to Discover Your Singing Gigs

Every aspiring artist needs to know the answer to one major question: where do you find singing gigs? Without singing gigs there is no audience and no money. Without those two things there will be no singing career. Don't worry.  Singing for an audience is the fun part. To be successful you will need to have great live performances. Most legendary singers love doing singing gigs. So don't worry, just follow these steps and you will be lining up gigs soon enough.

Start by doing your own legwork. You are always going to be your own best salesperson. You know you have the singing talent, so let others know too. Look for gigs in any music literature you can lay your hands on. There is both print literature and Internet literature now. The opportunities to find gigs are out there.

Sound your own horn. Once you know you have talent, let people know it. All of the music literature where you looked for singing gigs also takes advertisements for singing talent. Don't be shy about putting yourself out there. You can even set up a separate phone number, for cheap, just for your singing gigs.

Once you do get your singing together, put it into a nice package that you can show to people. When your talent is presented professionally people are more apt to take you and your singing seriously. Think about getting a website with contact information and singing samples. Put together a professional demo tape. Show everyone that you are serious and believe in your talent. Nobody wants to hire somebody who doesn't present themselves nice. Even as a beginning singer, you can package yourself professionally to help with finding singing gigs.

Now that you have done your own legwork, it's time to have somebody help you land singing gigs. Get an agent. Although an agent will take a percentage of what you earn, they can help you further your singing career by landing professional gigs and helping to negotiate financial payments. Agents are connected to people in the business. They are able to open doors for you that would remain closed if you were on your own. An agent will also free up some of the time you spent looking for gigs, so you can use it to hone your skill as a singer.

Start growing your contact list. Get involved in organizations with other singers. You never know when you'll meet a peer who can help you land singing gigs.

Be organized in all of your contacts. Be regular in your contact of people that hire singers. Just because you got turned down once doesn't mean you will be turned down again. Keep checking with bars and hotels that have live music. Be persistent.

Nobody said a singing career was easy, but if you work hard the gigs are out there for you. Once you start landing a few singing gigs, people will start contacting you to see if you are available to work.
