Valentines Day...........Make it Last

Many times during my young school days around Valentines day season I grew excited to realize the expectations ahead.

Valentines, a very special means to express your feelings and share your love with someone you love. I guess that was the teachers way of reminding us to love everyone in our classroom because we would bring everone a valentine and a gift of candy hearts to pass around.

As I grew older in school I found myself picking out candy with special terms or wording to give to a certain girl. Yes, it was then that love took on a different meaning. Making sure she got them by slipping them in her desk at recess. I would sneak back inside and watch for her to discover them and search the boys to see who placed them there. As I grew older I made sure that my special friend knew I had her in my heart as a favorite. After school was over and I had graduated Valentines took on a different meaning. I no longer depended on my parents to afford my gifts for me. Several hours, and then sometimes days were spent in the stores looking for That perfect gift of chocolates and a card to match my expression of love to that very special one.

We now have a competing gift given season called Sweetest Day. On this day it is very difficult to find something to express your feelings of emotion. I find Valentines Day the perfect time to shop for a Sweetest Day gift as there are more relevant gifts to select from. This saves time and money as many times there are left over sales that offer very good bargains. It is very difficult to make up your mind with so many options available today. Flowers, rings, candy, and cards are so popular sometimes I wish I could come up with a gift idea that was not so mainstream. What I decided was to make my selections more elaborate during my later years, not like my previous years when it appeared as though I was just going through the motions. I guess as we mature we become more considerate, and appreciate each other more. It may also be another level of which we mature. Ideas mature as we get older. Prices for our purchases seem to cost more and more gifts are given. We tend to make it a gift giving season. I have spent more on Valentine gifts than I have for Christmas during some years of celebration. Valentines can take on many different forms in giving. The mainstream is not as acceptable as in previous years. One must be much more creative, making it possible for the element of surprise. I like to start my season of giving about two weeks before Valentines Day. Starting out small and gradually working up to that final moment when the day is actually here. It helps heighten the element of surprise as that special person would never realize that there are more gifts on the way. on that special day, that final day you create a special environment to present your gift. That is when your giving is most appreciated. The recipient is so much more surprised to receive anything more from you as the previous gifts were expected to be all you had to give. A Valentine is meant to express your appreciation. Spreading out your appreciation throughout the previous year is also acceptable. Waiting for one day out of the year to shower your special one with your love, while neglecting your expressions of love the rest of the year is not favorable to many. So this year I have decide to give my Valentine Day throughout the year. It may just be More hugs, or kisses. It may just be a Hershey drop, a rose, or a dozen roses. I refuse to wait for one day out of the year to express my feelings of romance to my special one. It is not very often we find one who deserves so much love and devotion. When we do one day is not enough. We tend to carry on with our gift giving throughout the whole year regardless. Some may say this practice will ruin the sentiments of the original traditional Valentines Day flooding out the special meaning of giving. From my experience the recipient is always surprised no matter what day it is. When you find one who deserves it it doesn't matter. Make it last forever.
